Prince William and Kate Middleton Royal Wedding Invitation

About 1900 people were lucky enough to get an invitation to the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

With its gold lettering and gilded edge, this stiff white card is decorated in gold writing and emblazed with a matching insignia of William's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, in whose name the invitation is sent.

This beautiful invitation is:

  • beveled
  • gilded
  • stamped with EIIR in gold which has then been burnished

Hmmm I wonder how much this would go for in Ebay?

The invitation for the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton went out to some of the best-connected people around the world, from kings to charity leaders, to close family and university friends, old schoolmates and prime ministers around the world.

The edges of the card – which is about 8 in. by 6 in. – are beveled and then gilded.

The invitation says those invited are supposed to wear a:

  • uniform
  • morning coat
  • lounge suit

Did you get yours? Got mine… no sir, oh well, it appears that the Duchess of York Sarah Furgeson who just so happens to be William's aunt didn’t get one either :P

It has been said that she was caught soliciting bribes for access to the royal family.

Classic and elegant, the black text on the invitation – which has been issued in the name of the Queen – reads:

‘The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by The Queen to invite. . . to the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, K.G., with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday, 29th April, 2011 at 11.00am.

‘A reply is requested to State Invitations Secretary, Lord Chamberlain’s Office, Buckingham Palace.'

Although gentlemen are required to wear uniform, morning coat or lounge suit, there is no dress code for female guests, although ladies will be required to wear a hat for the wedding service.

The Prince’s official residence Clarence House has confirmed that over 50 members of the Royal Family received an invitation as well as 40 members of foreign royalty.

Also invited are more than 200 members of the:

  • British Government
  • Parliament
  • Diplomatic corps

  • Deputy Prime Minister
  • Leader of the Opposition
  • Key members of the Cabinet

Although there will be 1900 guest at the wedding ceremony, only 600 guests have been invited to attend the wedding breakfast hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace following the ceremony.

The Queen, who made a state visit to Oman and Abu Dhabi last year, believes the wedding invitations will be good for diplomatic relations between Britain and the Middle East.

There also will be an evening reception at Buckingham Palace which Prince William and Kate have invited 300 family and friends
